This location is another strong candidate within Pakistan. The city of Peshawar is in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, home to a large Pashtun population, which matches the likely ethnicity and clothing of the individuals. While the city itself is in a valley, its outskirts and the surrounding tribal districts (like the former Khyber Agency) are characterized by arid, rugged mountains very similar to those in the image. The simple concrete block architecture is also ubiquitous here. This presents a very similar environment to the primary candidate.

As an alternative to Pakistan, southern Afghanistan, particularly the area around Kandahar, shares many of the same visual cues. The population is predominantly Pashtun, the clothing style is identical, and the landscape is similarly arid and mountainous. The building materials and styles are also consistent across the border region. While Pakistan is considered slightly more likely based on general image prevalence, a location like Kandahar cannot be ruled out as it fits all the primary visual evidence.
