The sandy, light-colored soil is also typical. Northern Nigeria, particularly the regions around Kano, has a high population density and features countless villages with this exact appearance.

Burkina Faso is another prime candidate, well-known for its traditional earthen architecture. The scene is highly consistent with the landscape of the central Mossi Plateau. The combination of the building style, the sandy soil, and the type of trees fits perfectly with rural areas outside the capital, Ouagadougou, or other major cities like Bobo-Dioulasso. The visual evidence is virtually indistinguishable from that of neighboring countries like Nigeria and Mali.

Mali is famous for its Sudano-Sahelian architecture, and while this is a more modest example than the great mosques, it is a very common style for rural dwellings.
